Staying informed about relevant issues in language and cognition development is important for professionals to be aware of when developing early interventions. Not only does staying informed ensure that you are identifying needs and delivering interventions based on the latest research, but it also makes you more marketable in the field of early childhood development.
To prepare for your journal,
- Please refer to the Week 3 Guidance for further tips and examples that will support your success on this journal.
- Read the article, “Relating Quality of Center-Based Child Care to Early Cognitive and Language Development Longitudinally.”

Journal Instructions:
- Explain at least three contemporary issues that impact cognitive and language development in children including the diverse perspectives surrounding the issue. Be sure to provide your personal viewpoint centered on that issue.
- Provide at least two websites, professional organizations, or publications that you can begin to follow to stay informed and explain why they are valuable to your role. Include a link to the website and a summary of why it will be valuable to you in your professional role.
- Identify at least one professional development opportunity available online and one in-person opportunity, perhaps in your local community. These might be workshops, mini-classes, lectures from experts, etc. that could help you learn about the issues or be resources for the issues.

- One to two double-spaced pages (not including title and reference pages).
Research and Resource Expectations:
- Sources are not required for your journal assignments. However, if you need to cite information, you must cite in APA format and include a reference page.
