Soc401 Community Outreach Program Proposal
This assignment will help you to understand the valuable contribution you can make in your community by using your sociological knowledge, research skills, and problem-solving skills to creatively propose a community outreach program that will help people in the community of your choice. Assume that you have been offered the opportunity to apply for a $100,000 grant from a local government initiative to fund new community projects. Develop a strong argument using the data gathered to support the creation of the community engagement program as well as design a program that will have specific, positive outcomes for the community and the groups the program serves.
Your Community Outreach Program Proposal final project must include the following parts:
A clear introduction that covers the community you wish to serve and a detailed discussion of the issue you wish to address in your proposal. Answer the following questions:
Why is this issue important?
What is your investment in the community?
What brought you to the community issue?
Why did you choose this issue as a point of focus?
Proposed results of the project should answer the following questions:
Who will benefit from the project?
What are some of the implications of the research?
What are the positive outcomes and long-term consequences of your project?
How would you expect a project like this to succeed?
Financial needs
Consider the financial needs to support your proposal.
Of the $100,000 grant you’re applying for, how will all the money be used? Consider labor, media, hiring external reviewers, and unforeseen issues.
Challenges
What social and cultural challenges might you find in the project?
What potential risks are involved?
How will you predict and avoid challenges?
Concluding remarks
What did you learn from your proposal?
Why should you receive the $100,000?
Is there an organization that might benefit from or use your proposal? If so, what might it be?
Make use of the required material from this week and any other material relevant to your project.
A note on interviewing people: Conduct personal interviews if you would like to. Interviews can enhance research and make it even more enjoyable. Should you choose to do this, you must do two things:
If you are interested in interviewing people for their research, you must inform your instructors, complete an Informed Consent Form, and have your instructors sign off on the project.
Create interview questions and have them cleared and approved by your professor.
You must complete both tasks before moving forward with your interviews.
