Infant/Toddler Observation (3 months – 2 years old)
*To complete this assignment there are two OPTIONS, see OPTION 1 and OPTION 2!
OPTION 1:
- In a Word Document, create a cover sheet to include age of child, gender, and setting of observation.
- Observe 1 an infant/toddler (3 months to 2 years old) for 30 minutes. You can observe this child in a group setting. You may need to describe their interaction with other children.
- Write 10 descriptive sentences while you observe the infant/toddler. Write what you see and hear!
- Next to each sentence, write if it is an example of the Physical, Cognitive or Social-Emotional domain.
- Example: When strangers entered his house, Jake ran to his Mom and held onto her leg with both arms – Social Emotional, Physical and Cognitive.
OPTION 2:
If you cannot identify an infant or toddler to observe, then watch the following YouTube video and follow these directions:
- In a Word Document, write 10 descriptive sentences about the child in the video clip. Write what you see! Describe what you see the child doing. Remember we practiced this in class.
- Next to each sentence, write if it is an example of the Physical, Cognitive or Social-Emotional domain.
- Example: When the wood blocks fell, he grabbed one of the wood blocks and set them between his legs. Then he grabbed a second wood block and set it in front of the first wood block, balancing them so they do not fall on each other. – Physical and Cognitive.
- No Cover Sheet is needed.
